A Message from the President

GRTU Announcement

Our scorching summer has finally given way to slightly cooler weather and that can only mean trout “season” is right around the corner. I’d like to thank Robilyn Pettit for once again leading the LAP rollout and signup through another year of smooth sailing. Also, thanks to Chris Johnson for donating his time and knowledge to host the three LAP Orientation classes.

Our two most important annual events are on the horizon with the GRTU Youth Trout Camp in January and Troutfest TX 24 in February. It is an extremely busy time as we focus on these two events, and of course some time on the river, and we are always looking for more folks to join in on lending a hand with these efforts. If you are interested in volunteering at GRTU YTC, please contact Dakus Geeslin at geeslind@grtu.flywheelsites.com and if TFTX 24 is of interest, you can find the information at https://grtu.org/troutfest-tx/troutfest-tx-2024/.

Please consider volunteering your time and talents with GRTU. We have less than 3% of our members who do so and as an all-volunteer organization, that number only allows for so much to get done. Even with that low number, I am amazed by the amount of high-level programs and excellent results driven by this tiny sliver of our membership. We have an incredible group of “doers” and I am extremely grateful to them for their dedication and support.

We are currently looking for members to lead or help with the following areas:

  • Plan and execute river cleanups twice a year. Works with GRTU’s Conservation Chair.
  • Help plan and execute evening GRTU non-chapter meetings in Houston, Dallas, and Austin at our business partners’ locations. Fly tying, Pint night, guest speaker, etc. Works with GRTU’s VP of Chapter Affairs.
  • Info-Tech Chair/Webmaster to work with our outside IT company on grtu.org and associated needs.

If any of these areas are ones that you have an interest in, please contact me at marshallw@grtu.flywheelsites.com,

Stay well and tight lines

Bill Marshall
GRTU President
