GRTU Summer 23 Chapter Meeting Video

Greetings Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited Members,

As we step into the fall season, the cooler temperatures signal the arrival of prime trout fishing on the Guadalupe River. I hope you’re as excited as I am for the incredible events and opportunities coming our way. October is packed with ways to get involved, whether you’re a seasoned angler, conservationist, or just getting started. Let’s dive into the latest highlights from our chapter.

Troutfest TX 25: Celebrating a Milestone

This February, we’ll be marking a significant milestone with Troutfest TX 25, our chapter’s 16th annual Troutfest! Preparations are well underway to ensure this is the best yet. Set to take place from February 21-23, 2025, Troutfest TX 25 will feature an impressive lineup of guest speakers, casting clinics, fly-tying demos, a kids zone, and, of course, a massive exhibitor area.

We’re proud to welcome top-tier guides, conservation experts, and keynote speakers who will share their knowledge and passion for trout conservation and fly fishing. This event isn’t just about celebrating fishing—it’s about safeguarding the coldwater fisheries (and warm water as we are in Texas!) we love. So, mark your calendars and stay tuned for ticket info and special announcements in the coming months at https://grtu.org/troutfest-tx/troutfest-tx-2025/.

Youth Trout Camp: Inspiring the Next Generation

One of our proudest traditions is our annual Youth Trout Camp, scheduled for January 17-19, 2025. This camp is designed to inspire the next generation of anglers and conservationists, giving young people hands-on experience in fly fishing, casting techniques, conservation, fly tying, and the importance of preserving our rivers and streams.

This year’s camp promises to be our biggest yet, with expanded activities, more one-on-one mentoring, and opportunities for young campers to gain essential knowledge about river ecosystems and conservation practices. If you know any kids between the ages of 12-17 who are eager to learn, this is the perfect opportunity to foster their interest in the sport and the environment. Applications are open through the end of October at https://grtu.org/youth-trout-camp/.

Fall River Cleanup: Preserving Our Waters

In the spirit of conservation, I’d also like to remind everyone about our Fall River Cleanup on October 19, 2024. Our chapter takes immense pride in maintaining the health of the Guadalupe River, and this is one of the most impactful ways we can give back to the resource that gives us so much joy. Whether you’re an angler or simply a nature enthusiast, we welcome everyone to come out and help keep our river pristine.

This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow members, enjoy a day outside, and make a tangible difference in the community. Just bring your enthusiasm and a readiness to roll up your sleeves for a good cause! Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages and also www.grtu.org for full information. Trout Season 2024 Kick-Off at Gruene Outfitters

Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited (GRTU), in partnership with Living Waters Fly Fishing and Gruene Outfitters, is excited to announce the Trout Season 2024 kick-off event at Gruene Outfitters on October 19 from 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM.

The event will include a variety of fly fishing classes from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, offering tips and techniques for anglers of all skill levels. Afterward, settle in for the “Trout Tales” movie, starting after dark. Light snacks and beverages will be provided starting around 5:00 pm, however, feel free to bring your cooler with food and drinks. Don’t forget your chairs for the movie screening under the stars! We will have prizes throughout the day and at the movie!

This is a free event, open to everyone, whether you’re a seasoned fly fisher or just curious to learn more about the sport and trout fishing on the Guadalupe. Come out and help us kick off trout season in style! If you are looking for more than a snack, there is a plethora of amazing restaurants in Gruene that you can support. Come and go as you please, maybe even visit your second favorite shop in Gruene as we’ll be at your favorite one!

Looking Ahead

As always, I encourage you to stay engaged with GRTU by attending our chapter meetings, volunteering at our events, attending Troutfest TX, and supporting our conservation efforts. The work we do together helps protect the future of fishing in Texas and across the USA for generations to come. Thank you for your continued dedication and passion—let’s make this fall one to remember!

Tight lines,

Bill Marshall
