Message from the President

GRTU Cowgirl Trout

Troutfest TX 23 is less than a month away and we’ve sold out in the Main tent. This occurred in 30 days which is by far the quickest sell-out ever. Our Speaker lineup is the largest and finest we have ever offered to attendees with Chris Wood, Hilary Hutcheson, Jako Lucas, George Daniel, Tiffany Yeates, Alvin Deadeaux, Kevin Hutchison, Alice Owsley and Duane Redford scheduled to be here. Troutfest TX is an all-volunteer run event and as a major fly fishing show is an extremely time-consuming endeavor for a very small group of GRTU volunteers. Thanks to all those who make this an excellent NATIONAL event and allow us to further TU’s mission and support so many worthy groups in addition. If you’d like to step up and volunteer, click here for the sign-up link. Banquet and Movie Night Tickets are available and will sell out quickly as they always do, so you’d best snap them up really quickly!

The Lease Access Program (LAP) was rolled out to members in June and the entire process right thru signup the first week of October went extremely smooth in terms of technology which was a big plus for members and the Board. Robilyn Pettit has done a fantastic job with revamping this program and may be contacted at pettitr@grtu.flywheelsites.com with any questions. Thanks for stepping up Robilyn!

The September River Cleanup was well attended and as always a fun and productive day. Although it is always needed, there was far less trash in the river and on the banks which was a welcome sight. Thanks to Chris Johnson and the team at Gruene Outfitters for spearheading this effort.

The November Chapter Meeting and Board of Directors Election was a success with Sascha Clark Danylchuk of Keep Fish Wet as our Guest Speaker. The timing of having her here was perfect as it was a week before the first stocking and our members were very engaged during her presentation.

Please consider volunteering your time and talents with GRTU. We have less than 3% of our members who do so and as an all-volunteer organization that number simply only allows for so much to get done. Even with that low number, I am amazed by the number of high-level programs and excellent results that are driven by this tiny sliver of our membership. We have an incredible group of “doers” and I am extremely grateful to them for their dedication and support.

Hope to see you at Troutfest TX. Stay well and tight lines!

Bill Marshall, GRTU President
